Endangered Species day was on May 19th and for this occasion we are recognizing the American Badger!

Did you know that the American Badger is one of the most endangered mammals in all of BC? Named for the dark patches (badges) on their face, the badger is a voracious predator of gophers, ground squirrels, and other rodents.

Due mostly to relentless human persecution in the 1900s, badger populations crashed are still on the brink of local extinction due to drastic loss of their favoured grassland habitat loss as well as frequent death from being hit by vehicles.

There are thought to be fewer than 250 badgers left in the entire province, and less than 30 in the entire Okanagan valley. What can you do for badgers? Check out our All About Badgers page to learn more! https://www.osstewardship.ca/badgers
