Summerland Golf & Country Club, Summerland, BC
The SGCC became a wildlife habitat steward back in 2015, after OSS staff came one day to survey the golf course water traps for invasive American Bullfrogs and found dozens of critically endangered Tiger Salamanders instead! Golf course staff had known about the salamanders (with the course situated beside native grassland and forest, they were used to seeing lots of wildlife) but no one had realised how important they were.
Superintendant Patrick Kerr quickly signed a stewardship agreement and OSS helped the golf club improve the out-of-play area around the pond by removing the turf, planting native grasses and shrubs, and installing large woody debris for Tiger Salamanders to hide beneath.
