Riverside Marsh is a oxbow that was once part of the Okanagan River. Oxbows are the curves in a river that have become cutoff from the main channel, whether naturally or via human engineering.

 

The Riverside Marsh oxbow is found in a municipal park with Coyote Cruises to the South and Loco Landing to the North and was created when the Okanagan River was channelised in the 1950s. Storm water and a small amount of groundwater seepage from the surrounding area fill the centre of the marsh.

Between 2016 and 2020 Okanagan Similkameen Stewardship planted over 2500 native, trees, shrubs, wild flowers and grasses on the site with the help of over 300 volunteers.
