Hello! My name is Amaylia and I am stoked to be living here in the Okanagan and working as part of the Okanagan-Similkameen Stewardship Society this Summer. I am a current student at Thompson Rivers University and I am in my final year of the Natural Resource Science Program where my passion for everything outdoors from bugs to birds has grown exponentially. This summer I hope to learn lots about the plants, people and wildlife in the Okanagan-Similkameen region as well as help restore natural communities in order to improve ecosystem functioning. In my spare time I will be busy exploring this beautiful area and might even have to take a rockclimbing lesson or two! #okanagan #similkameen #stewardship #womaninstem

Hello, my name is Sophia Reimer and I will be working for the OSS as a Field Technician this summer. Last year I graduated from UBCO with a degree in Biology, focusing on ecology and conservation. Many of my summer vacations growing up included camping and hiking trips which inspired my love for wildlife and the outdoors. I have lived in the Okanagan my whole life and I am excited for the opportunity to help protect and conserve this beautiful land. I am looking forward to learning new things and further exploring this amazing place.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT >

We respectfully acknowledge that our stewardship work takes place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Syilx (Okanagan) People. For countless generations, the Syilx People have cared for these lands, waters, plants, and wildlife through their knowledge, laws, and responsibilities to the natural world.

As an organization dedicated to conservation and stewardship, we recognize that caring for ecosystems is not a new practice but one that has been guided by Indigenous Peoples since time immemorial. We honour the Syilx Nation's enduring stewardship and commit to fostering respectful relationships with the land and with the people who have always called it home.
